Our Work
We aim to promote and assist the development of co-operation and collaboration amongst producers and in local food supply chains, to help businesses achieve their full potential in the expanding market, and to contribute to the achievement of public sector policy objectives related to local foods.
Some recent examples of our work to promote and assist local foods' development include:
- A project for SEERAD in which we investigated the market potential for local foods in Scotland, identified the various stakeholders, networks and gaps in support, drawing conclusions and making recommendations
- Managing and contributing to proposals between Councils and local food producers in two areas of Scotland regarding supply of local foods to schools
- Assisting three separate groups interested in establishing or further developing, local food distribution hubs. In each case the aim was supply chain development to improve the capacity of local food producers to develop and service local markets
- Feasibility work for three businesses and groups interested in developing new retail facilities for local foods
- Assisting local producers to organise their farmers markets as co-ops
- Providing secretarial and strategy resource to the Scottish Association of Farmers' Markets
