Our Work
We aim to promote and assist co-operation and collaboration in carbon management and the establishment of renewable energy enterprises, in response to supply chain demands and the Scottish Executive's policy objectives.
Action in the UK to manage carbon emissions in agriculture and food supply chains is at a relatively early stage. However, we are actively assisting Scottish farmers and groups to formulate and implement plans that will reduce costs, and respond to customers' requirements, while contributing to the Scottish Executive's policy objectives.
Recent examples of our work include:
- A feasibility study of a prospective 'new generation co-op' investing as part of a consortium in a bio-diesel plant in central Scotland.
- Information and assistance to several Councils and a housing association interested in the potential for biomass renewable energy developments, particularly the provision of heat to schools and other buildings.
- Initiating and managing a project supported by The Carbon Trust to evaluate, target and plan carbon reduction in five co-ops, involved in a cross section of activities.
- Leading a DTI sponsored mission to Denmark to appraise the feasibility of using light grains as a fuel.
- Discussions and advice to two grain groups regarding potential development opportunities to cut fossil fuel use in grain drying.
